Evolving Pokemon
Intro:
Evolving Pokemon or knowing when to evolve Pokemon can be tricky, this is where the Wiki can be a great tool.

Unlike most Pokemon games, Evolution here is manual meaning you actively have to tell your Pokemon when to evolve if you meet the requirements to do so. if you have familiarised yourself with the UI this shouldn't be an issue, as within the game it should tell you when you can evolve your Pokemon and what requirements are needed.

Benefits of evolving:
-
Higher base stats (in most cases)
-
Trainer XP and Dex registration (if not previously registered)
-
Access to new moves (in some cases)

Evolution requirements:

There are a number of ways a Pokemon can evolve, either via a level requirement, Stone/Item, Happiness, Time of day or a mix in some special cases. Notice how trading wasn't included in that list, It is important to point out that all previous trade evolutions from the official games such as Gengar have been replaced with a happiness value requirement instead, so you do not have to part with your Pokemon or have a friend to help you, you can go solo.

It is also important to know that in order to evolve with any method your Pokemon needs to be called out (controlled), then press your team key (T) select the Pokemon, Press the "Evolution" button then finally press the stage you wish to evolve to. (there's usually only one choice, but not always)

Level Evolutions:

By far the easiest and most common way to evolve, simply meet the level requirement by levelling your Pokemon and pressing evolve.

Stone/Item Evolutions:

Some Pokemon require an item to be evolved, for now, all items can be purchased from the mart, some marts sell different items such as the King's Rock at Training 1 and Dragon Scale at One Island.

Pokemon that require a stone or item to evolve can typically be evolved at any level, so it is important to see what moves the evolution learns and compare it to what the current stage learns, to ensure you won't miss out on anything when you decide to evolve.

If you want to be extra careful i would suggest using something like serebii.net (set to gen 8 - BDSP) and check all the level-up moves of all the stages to be sure you won't miss out on anything important to you now or in the future.

Happiness Evolutions:

Happiness is gained from winning battles and completing quests, the happiness value can be seen on the main stat window. Just as you would expect once you have the required amount of happiness a Pokemon requires you will be able to evolve the Pokemon. As previously mentioned all the trade evolutions from the official games have been converted to happiness values.

Happiness evolutions have a similar "issue" as Item evolutions in which the level isn't often a factor, meaning you should research the move pools of all the stages to find out whens best for you to evolve.
