The Brokerage

Intro:

The Brokerage is the way Pokemon are bought and sold. it is a live marketplace for all players in the game, once you list a Pokemon for sale everyone will be able to see and purchase it. you can access the broker from the PC terminal once you have reached Trainer level 10.

Limitations:

  • You can only list Pokemon for sale that is tradeable, meaning Pokemon like your Starters and some legendaries are not able to be bought from the broker.

  • There is a minimum listing price of 1000 Pokedollars, you cannot list anything for less than this price.

  • There is a listing Fee of 8% this will not be returned once sold or removed.

  • You cannot choose who buys your Pokemon.

  • You cannot refund or return an item that has been sold or purchased.

How to use:

Buying a Pokemon:

Before you buy a Pokemon you may want to filter the listings to what you're looking for. You can do this from the first Broker window. Simply set the parameters you want in the filters, you can select things like the Pokemon species, Level, Nature, Size, IVs, EVs and the shiny colouration. once you've selected what you want press the search button located at the bottom of the window.

IMPORTANT - You need to uncheck " [  ] All " For any filters you set to take effect.

Once you search you will see all the listings that match your search criteria, if nothing shows up either nobody is selling what you're looking for or there was a mistake with the filters, double check them to be sure.

If you're lucky enough to find what you're looking for then you can preview the Pokemon by pressing the "More Info" button located to the right of the row, this will show you the full stat window so you can double check before committing to purchase.

If you like what you see, press "Buy for [x]$"

If successful the Pokemon will appear in your PC/Terminal in the next available slot. Unsuccessful purchases should present an error. reasons for failed orders could be insufficient funds or the listing was purchased while you were viewing.

If for whatever reason you wish to remove the listing before a sale has occurred you can press the "Remove" button on the far right of the row, this will return the Pokemon to your PC terminal but you will not be refunded the initial 8% listing fee so be careful.

Once the Pokemon has sold a button will appear in place of that remove button, it will say "Take Money" instead, this is how you collect the money from your sale, if you don't do this step the money will remain in the brokerage.

Understanding the Market:

Now you know HOW to buy and sell, you need to learn when to buy/sell and how much for. this is an incredibly difficult thing to lay out in a short article like this and the market is always moving and changing based on various factors. what we can do is provide some guidance to help you figure it out.

Firstly, the best thing to do if you have doubts is ask, there are plenty of spaces with members of the community who would be more than happy to help you figure out what something is worth, the more people you ask the better picture it will paint for you.

Things that impact value:

  • Shiny colouration

    • As mentioned in our shiny guide, there are multiple variations on shiny Pokemon and some are rarer than others and some species are rare making other shiny counterparts even rarer, the rarer something is the higher the value will usually be, the amount the value will increase will fluctuate with events and updates so you need to be aware of the current game conditions at the time of sale to understand a value.

  • Species

    • As mentioned above some species are rarer than others, and this will directly impact the value based on the rarity, you can view the rarity of any given Pokemon via this Wiki to help you.

  • Availability

    • Availability and rarity can be different for example, a Pokemon could be very rare but at a previous point in time the rarity could have been lower, like for an event or just through time, this means that there are more in circulation thus driving down the price, this also can work in reverse if the rarity of a pokemon shoots up massively the amount won't decrease but the demand will slowly rise as it becomes less and less common on the market.

  • Nature

    • As mentioned in the Understanding Stats page a Pokemon matched with the right nature is a big deal to those players who want the best Pokemon, those players can be willing to pay millions for their "perfect" Pokemon nature will play a big part in that

  • IVS

    • Just like nature people are willing to pay a lot for the best and it is important to know what the best is, just because a Pokemon you have has 31 IVs in some stats doesn't mean that people will want it, they have to be high IV in the stats that pokemon uses or needs.

  • EVS

    • This is an area where people will pay extra just to save them time, the value-added isn't always much since any Pokemon can be EV-trained.

  • Size

    • Size is an interesting stat and point of value, Some players have a preference over size which means they could be willing to pay more for that preference and equally avoid anything that doesn't meet that preference.

    • Size also has an inherent rarity to it, if you read our page on size distribution you can see just how rare some of the sizes are, so people could be willing to pay a premium to have either of the large or small Pokemon if only just for collection purposes.

  • Level

    • A similar reason to EVs. This is mainly a time saver for most people, especially for anything over level 100 the higher the level the more someone could be willing to pay.

  • Movepool

    • This one is vital to some Pokemon as in some cases if you evolve at an inopportune time your Pokemon could lose out on some moves which could make a valuable Pokemon be worth next to nothing, always check the levels the Pokemon were evolved at and the current levels then compare to the moves available.

  • ID

    • In some rare cases your Pokemon ID could be considered valuable older Pokemon have lower values, or maybe an important milestone would be a cool collection piece "Pokemon ID 1,000,000", however, this is a real niche area (at least at the time of writing this)

Scam Awareness:

For every good thing, there will be a select few that ruin it for everyone. The brokerage is a real, open market, everyone and anyone can see all listings. some people will try to negotiate a private trade deal via the brokerage, this is not the intended use of this system, if you list something intended for a specific person on the condition that you will be sent something in return no guarantee can ever be made that it will go according to that plan. either the Pokemon you send or the Pokemon you expect to receive could be purchased by people outside the deal, these are legitimate purchases (Usually) and cannot be reversed. if you expect the purchase to not be legitimate i.e they lied about receiving it or it was purchased by an alt account, you can make a ticket in the discord for an enquiry to be made, if the purchase turns out to be illegitimate the Pokemon can be returned. if however, it is a legitimate purchase the chances of it being returned are low.

While being ripped off isn't necessarily a scam by definition, it's certainly not a pleasant reality to face. some people will try to get you to sell valuable things for low prices and buy worthless ones for high prices, if you build up enough knowledge you can avoid these bad actors.

Bad people will always find a way to cheat others, however, the more knowledge you gain the more informed your decisions can be, if you take the right precautions you can protect yourself. Use the systems as they are intended and you should never face this issue.
