Trainer Levels and Trainer XP
Intro:
What are Trainer Levels? and why do I need to know about them?

Trainer levels are a core component of the game and will affect your overall experience in seemingly small, but important ways.
For example, here are some of the things your trainer level will impact on your journey:
-
Overall Pokemon XP gain
-
Overall Catch Rate (Unless Wild Pokemon is level 5 or lower)
-
Areas you can go
-
PC/Box Storage (+1 box per 5 Levels)
-
Access to the Brokerage (Level 10)
How do I level up my trainer?
The easiest way is to fill your Pokedex, every new species you capture will give you trainer XP and the amount of XP will increase for every new addition based on a simple formula. Expand the table below to view the values for each addition.

Formula:
{Previous XP Gain} + {SUM of Total Pokemon} = New XP Gain

Trainer XP Gained Via Pokedex registraion
Registered Pokemon
XP Gain
Alternative ways to increase your trainer level are:
-
Completing Quests
There are a number of quests given by NPCs all over the region that offer rewards, trainer XP being one of them. Read more about quests here, or even check out the quest list here.

-
Fighting Stronger Wild Pokemon
If you faint a wild Pokemon that is BOTH at a type advantage against you AND a higher level than yours you will gain 1 XP point towards your trainer.
Example: level 5 Charmander vs level 6 Geodude = 1 Trainer XP
Because Charmander is weak against rock-type Pokemon.
Trainer Levels and XP Breakdown:

At the start of your journey you will rapidly gain XP and levels as you catch more and more pokemon and complete the occasional quest, however the longer you play and the higher level you get the more xp you will need to get to the next level, the table below shows the XP needed for each level and the overall total XP needed to reach that point.
